My Nikon Story
Now you’ve had the opportunity to read about Nikon, this role and the benefits of
working with us, you can find out more about what it is like from the people who are
the real experts in the field – our team. Members of staff talk about their own
journeys to their current roles, what it’s like working for Nikon, and the wide range of
opportunities available.
Simon Iddon
General Manager, Healthcare Division
I joined Nikon in December 2009 as Product Manager for the consumer
DSLR category, and had a relatively linear journey through Product
Management, becoming Head of Product Management in 2015. I was
then given the opportunity to head up the Sales Team, and in August
2018 became General Manager of the Healthcare Division. The key
thing is that working here gives you great opportunities that you
wouldn’t get with many other companies.
Nikon is a global brand but without the excessive red tape that often
comes with a large corporation. We have a lot of pride in our products,
and a worldwide reputation. Culture-wise the company feels like a
family, which is a real positive, and people do stay for a long time,
partly because of your colleagues and partly because of your ability to
progress – two very powerful things.
The ability to effect change and be heard is really appealing. It’s a very
open environment in which everyone gets the chance to make an
impact, shine and grow. If you work hard, contribute and are proactive,
you can really progress your career; our managers actively look for
opportunities to develop people. If you’re considering a career at Nikon,
I’d say go for it, and take every opportunity thrown at you. It’s a great
place to work.

Chay Keogh
European Customer Relationship Manager
I joined Nikon as a Sales Coordinator in 1998. After 18
months I became a Junior Trainee Engineer, then came back
into the office three years later in a more marketing-based
role as a Product Executive. I then helped set up the
Healthcare marketing department and ran that for eight
years, during which time we also set up the website and CRM
system. I’m so proud of leading those projects; they’re great
examples of how taking up opportunities can lead to new
developments.
I became Service and Support Manager seven years ago,
looking after the field service team, the sales and admin
team, and product management. In spring 2020, I took on a
new role with pan-European responsibilities as Customer
Relationship Manager. My biggest motivation is seeing the
growth of individuals I’ve been giving guidance to – working
here is all about the people.
If you’re open to new things, embrace different ways of
working and can take yourself out of your comfort zone,
there’s always going to be something new to try. We’re all
about flexibility, adaptability and giving things a go – it feels
like I’ve worked for five different companies since I started.
No two days are the same; I’m still learning after 20 years!
James Edgington
Field Service Manager
I joined Nikon as a Sales Coordinator in the Healthcare
division aged 20, after four years in a sales office for a small
family business. It was great to move to a big brand and a
company that people had heard of. After six years I switched
to a Service Technician role, which included workshop
repairs, installing, servicing and repairing equipment. After
two years I was promoted to a Field Service Engineer role.
I was in this role for nine years which was fantastic as each
day was different, so it kept me interested. Changes in
technology means the job never stands still; you’re always
learning and being challenged.
In August 2018 I was promoted to Field Service Team Lead,
overseeing engineers out in the field. During my time as a
Sales Coordinator and Field Service Engineer it gave me the
right skills to fill the role, as I’m able to help make processes
run smoothly between the Customer Support Team and Field
Service Engineers. Since spring 2020, I have been Field
Service Manager for the UK.
I have now been with Nikon 17 years, which have flown by,
helped by the people I work with in the Healthcare division.
My role overlaps with a lot of different areas in the business
and you build great relationships with the whole team.

Natalia Alexander
Product & Support Manager, Healthcare Division
When I came to Nikon I just wanted an admin job in a good company.
I didn’t even know there was such a thing as a “product manager”,
but it turned out to be another step on the way to where I am now.
I joined as Sales Coordinator in the Healthcare division in October
2012 after a Maths degree from Sussex, shop work, then six months
in southeast Asia. The idea was to earn more cash then travel again.
But everyone was so welcoming, there was so much going on
socially and it was such a chilled place to work that I never did go
travelling a second time!
Nikon put together a good training plan so you pick up a job quickly.
They are also good at expanding your skills, which gives you the
confidence to take on new roles. When I told my then manager my
long-term goal was product management, he suggested first getting
more product experience – so Key Account Executive in Sales was
my next step. Less than two years later, I was a Product Manager
and within another couple of years, I became a member of the
Healthcare management team in my current role.
There is definitely a culture of promoting internally, so if you show
you’re capable and make clear the direction you want to go in, Nikon
will help you get there.
